How to Create a Blog Category

How to create a blog category

Introduction

Categories group related posts—Tutorials, News, Case studies—so readers filter content and you keep URLs structured. On systeme.io, categories live under Sites → Blogs → Categories; each has a name and URL path used when you assign posts at creation or edit time.

This guide follows How to create a blog category.

What You Need

Step 1: Open Categories

  1. Go to the Sites tab
  2. Click Blogs
  3. Open your blog
  4. Go to the Categories section

Step 2: Create a Category

  1. Click Create
  2. Enter the Category name (label visitors see)
  3. Enter the URL path (slug for the category archive, e.g. /tips)
  4. Click Save and create the blog category

The category appears in the list. Manage it with the three dots menu:

  • View — preview the category archive
  • Settings — change name or URL path
  • Delete — remove the category (posts may lose that assignment)

Step 3: Assign Categories to Posts

When you create a blog post or edit an existing one, use the Categories field in the post setup popup to select one or more categories. Those posts appear on the category archive URL and can be filtered on listing pages where supported.

Show Categories on Your Blog

To display a list of blog categories for visitors (sidebar or listing), enable the display option in your blog layout settings—the exact control is in the Blog Layout editor when you configure listing or category elements ( manage blog layout).

Link categories from the blog menu via Custom URL or category-specific URLs on systeme.io.

Best Practices

  • Start with 3–8 broad categories; avoid one post per micro-category
  • Keep URL paths short and consistent (/guides, not long sentences)
  • Don’t duplicate category paths with static pages or post slugs

Troubleshooting

Category page empty

No posts assigned to that category—edit posts and add the category.

404 on category URL

Check URL path; category or path changed without updating menu links.

Categories not visible on site

Enable category list in blog layout or add manual links in menu.

Contact systeme.io support with category name and blog URL.
