How to Create a Blog Menu

How to create a blog menu

Introduction

Visitors navigate your content through the blog menu—typically Home, Posts, About, Contact, and links to funnels or external URLs. On systeme.io, the menu is part of the Blog layout, not a separate app: edit the Menu element once and it appears on every page that uses the default blog shell.

This guide follows How to create a blog menu.

What You Need

Step 1: Open the Blog Layout Editor

  1. Go to Sites
  2. Click Blogs
  3. Click your blog title
  4. Click Blog layout

The blog layout editor opens. This template wraps most blog pages (header, footer, menu). Pages with Don’t use blog layout won’t show this menu unless you add navigation manually on that page.

Step 2: Edit the Menu Element

  1. Click the Menu element in the layout
  2. In the left panel, all Menu items are listed

For each item you can configure:

  • Title — label shown in the nav (e.g. Contact, Shop)
  • Type of linkBlog link or Custom URL
  • Menu item link — if Blog link, pick a page from the dropdown; if Custom URL, type the full URL
  • Open in a new window — check for external links
  • Delete — remove the item from menu and layout settings
  • Has submenu — enable a dropdown under this item
  • Open — expand submenu in the editor to preview
  • Add submenu item — same fields as top-level items (title, link type, URL)

Add new top-level items through the menu element’s add control in the layout editor (same pattern as existing template items). Point Blog link entries to pages you created under systeme.io Pages.

Step 3: Save and Preview

  1. Save the blog layout
  2. From the blog dashboard, click View blog
  3. Click each menu item to confirm Blog links and Custom URLs work
  4. Test submenu expand/collapse on desktop and mobile if your template supports it

Best Practices

  • Keep top-level items short (5–7 max) so the bar doesn’t crowd on mobile
  • Link Posts or category pages via Blog link to the Post list or category URLs you defined
  • Use Custom URL for your main funnel or systeme.io sales pages on another path
  • Put legal pages (Privacy, Terms) in a submenu under About

Troubleshooting

Menu change not visible

Save blog layout; hard-refresh browser; confirm you edited Blog layout, not a single page with don’t use blog layout.

Broken Blog link

Target page deleted or URL path changed—reselect page in Menu item link dropdown.

Submenu not showing

Has submenu enabled; add at least one submenu item; theme may style dropdowns only on desktop.

Contact systeme.io support with blog URL and screenshot of menu settings.
