How to Offer iDEAL and Bancontact Payments in systeme.io

How to offer iDEAL and Bancontact payments in systeme.io

Introduction

Dutch buyers often pay with iDEAL; Belgian buyers use Bancontact. On systeme.io, both methods run through Stripe—not as separate gateways. Once Stripe is configured correctly, you enable iDEAL and Bancontact per funnel and they appear on your order form alongside cards.

This guide expands How to offer iDEAL and Bancontact payments in systeme.io.

What You Need

  • A systeme.io account ( any plan that sells through funnels)
  • A Stripe account with iDEAL and Bancontact enabled
  • SEPA Direct Debit enabled on the same Stripe account
  • Stripe connected to systeme.io ( connect Stripe)
  • Offers priced in EUR (typical for NL/BE buyers)

Step 1: Configure Stripe

In systeme.io, iDEAL and Bancontact activation depends entirely on your Stripe setup. Confirm all of the following in the Stripe Dashboard:

  • iDEAL and Bancontact are integrated (enabled as payment methods for your account)
  • SEPA Direct Debit is enabled—required for this flow on systeme.io
  • Your Stripe account is linked to systeme.io under Settings → Payment gateways

Stripe may require business verification before local methods go live. Use Stripe’s Payment methods settings to request or activate iDEAL (Netherlands) and Bancontact (Belgium).

After iDEAL, Bancontact, and SEPA Direct Debit are ready, the options become available in systeme.io Funnel settings—you do not enable them only inside Stripe.

Step 2: Enable iDEAL and Bancontact on the Funnel

  1. Open SitesSales funnels → your funnel
  2. Open Funnel settings
  3. Ensure Stripe is enabled for this funnel ( activate Stripe or PayPal)
  4. Check iDEAL and Bancontact
  5. Click Save

The methods now show on your order form for that funnel. To hide them on a specific funnel, uncheck the boxes in that funnel’s settings (each funnel is independent).

Step 3: Mandatory Fields on the Payment Page

Note: For Bancontact payments to work properly, Email and First name fields are mandatory on your payment pages.

  1. Edit your order form step ( create order form)
  2. Confirm the payment block includes Email and First name
  3. Do not mark those fields as optional
  4. Save the page

Use the same discipline for iDEAL—buyers redirect through their bank; contact data must be collected on the form before payment.

What Buyers See

  • iDEAL: Customer selects iDEAL, chooses their bank, approves in the banking app, returns to your thank you page
  • Bancontact: Card/app flow familiar to Belgian shoppers; requires valid email and first name on the form
  • Successful payments appear in Sales → Transactions like any Stripe sale

Add order summary on thank you page for sales thank you steps.

Troubleshooting

iDEAL / Bancontact not in funnel settings

Stripe missing SEPA Direct Debit, or iDEAL/Bancontact not enabled in Stripe—or Stripe not connected to systeme.io.

Options in settings but not on checkout

Funnel checkboxes unchecked; Stripe disabled on this funnel; cache—test in incognito.

Bancontact fails

Missing Email or First name on the order form.

Only cards show

Offer currency not EUR or Stripe account country does not support the method.

Contact systeme.io support with funnel URL and a test transaction timestamp.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Mollie instead of Stripe for iDEAL?

This official flow is Stripe-only for iDEAL and Bancontact on systeme.io ( Mollie integration is a separate gateway for other setups).

Do I need PayPal too?

Optional; iDEAL/Bancontact are independent checkboxes next to Stripe on funnel settings.
