How to Integrate PayPal with systeme.io

PayPal lets customers pay with balance, cards, or local methods without you handling card data on your server. On systeme.io, integration is a two-part job: connect your PayPal business account under account settings, then turn on PayPal on each sales funnel that should offer it at checkout.

• A PayPal Business account (verified email, payouts configured)
• At least one sales funnel with a payment / order step
• Admin access to both PayPal and systeme.io (same person completes OAuth)

1. Click your profile picture (top right)
2. Open Settings
3. In the left menu, choose Payment gateways
4. Find PayPal and click Connect
5. Click Connect again if prompted
6. A new browser tab opens—log in to PayPal with your business credentials
7. Review permissions and authorize systeme.io to process payments on your behalf
8. Return to systeme.io; PayPal should show as connected

If connection fails, try another browser, disable ad blockers on the PayPal tab, or confirm you are using a Business account—not only a personal wallet.

After connecting, you may see a reminder: “Don’t forget to configure IPN settings.” Instant Payment Notification tells systeme.io when a payment succeeds so the sale appears in your dashboard, triggers tags, and unlocks courses. Without IPN, money may land in PayPal while systeme.io stays out of sync ( Why aren't my PayPal payment transactions appearing?).

1. Log in to PayPal
2. Click the profile icon → Account settings
3. Scroll to Notifications
4. Under Instant payment notification, click Update
5. Click Choose IPN settings
6. In Notification URL, enter exactly: https://systeme.io/payment/webhook/listening-paypal
7. Set IPN messages to Receive IPN messages (Enabled)
8. Click Save

Run a small test purchase after saving. If the transaction is missing in systeme.io, re-check the URL (no trailing spaces) and IPN enabled state.

Account-level connection does not automatically expose PayPal on every checkout. Per funnel:

1. Go to Sites → Sales funnels
2. Open the funnel you sell through
3. Click Funnel settings
4. Check PayPal
5. Optionally check Credit card or debit card if Stripe is connected
6. Click Save

IPN configured but payments still missing

Align offer currency with PayPal account supported currencies; mixed currency setups confuse buyers.

Can I use only PayPal without Stripe?

Yes—enable only PayPal in funnel settings. Many EU sellers start PayPal-first.

Does PayPal work on order bumps and upsells?
