How to create an assignment for a course lecture
Assignments allow you to ask students to complete practical work after a lecture. On systeme.io you can create assignments directly inside a lecture, make them optional or mandatory, and review student submissions with feedback.
This feature is available for classic courses only (not for light courses).
Here is the complete guide.
1. Open the lecture
Log in to your systeme.io account.
Go to Assets → Courses, open the classic course, then open the module that contains the lecture you want to attach an assignment to.
Click on the lecture name to open it (or hover over the three dots and select the option to manage it).
2. Create the assignment
Inside the lecture, look for the button or option called Create an assignment for this lecture.
Click it to start creating the assignment.
3. Configure the assignment
In the assignment creation screen you can set:
- Title – a clear name for the assignment
- Instructions – explain exactly what the student needs to do
- Mandatory or Optional – if mandatory, the student must submit the assignment before they can move to the next lecture
You can also activate, deactivate or delete the assignment later if needed.
Save the assignment when you are done.
4. How students submit and how you manage submissions
Students will see the assignment inside the lecture. They can upload one file per assignment (maximum size: 10 MB).
Once a student submits:
- You receive a notification
- You can download the file, approve or reject the submission, and leave written feedback
- The student receives an email and a dashboard notification with your decision and comments
All assignments and submissions can be managed from the dedicated Assignments tab.
Important notes
- Available only for classic courses (not light courses)
- Students can upload only one file per assignment (max 10 MB)
- Submitted files do not appear in the main file manager
- You can activate/deactivate or delete an assignment at any time
This feature works perfectly with drip content and progress tracking. For more advanced student interaction, you can also combine it with quizzes (see How to create a quiz in a course module) and comments.
If you still need to build the course itself, start here: How to create a course using systeme.io.
